Insane for Gray

Maybe it's the weather or maybe because it's just a fantastic color but gray has been on my mind today. I have white cabinets in my kitchen but the home office part of the room would look amazing painted a dark charcoal gray. I'm thinking a color called Cracked Pepper by Behr.

You will never see gray on my head but you will see it somewhere in my house.

Insane Score

I was wondering around Goodwill and these two babies were sitting there waiting for me to rescue them. I am obviously going to hit them with some white paint but not sure about fabric for the seats. By the way they were $15.00 a piece!
This could be fun
So many options...I'm going to have to think about this and get back with you.

Cocktail Hour

I have super cool friend that lives in a VERY super cool mid century modern home here in Nashville and she is on the hunt for some glam bar glasses and a lucite cart to display them on. Of course with Flea Market weekend starting tomorrow, I will be on the hunt. I hope I can deliver the goods and get to enjoy a cocktail or two at her amazing home.

This is what I will be searching for:

Grits and Grillades

My husband is in New Orleans this week on business and had the pleasure of attending a cooking class with his co workers. One of the items prepared was one of my favorites, grits and grillades. I thought it would be interesting to interpret this warm and creamy bowl of goodness into a room.

The grillades are like a soft chocolate brown chesterfield sofa and the grits are the creamy white wall....and of course some spicy items thrown in for flavor.

I Am Insane About Chalkboard Paint!

I just painted one wall in my daughter's room with it and now I want it everywhere! Maybe my pantry door.

Or a whole wall

A kitchen is like a little black dress...it is a plain until you accessorize it

My husband and I are finally making some small changes to our kitchen which really needs some help. We would love to change the blueprint of the room but due to one child in college and another one soon or her way, that is not going to happen. So the next best thing is to change out hardware and appliances. Or as I call it the accessories...

Mardi Gras Season Is Here!

Mardi Gras season has officially started back home and I thought it would be fun to design a room around the colors and attitude that reflect this holiday. Think purple, gold, green and a little of the unusual.
Start with a great graphic wallpaper:
walnut wallpaper

Now a fluffy rug

A curvy chaise in gold or purple

And of course over the top lighting. Whether it be old and opulent

Or modern and edgy

This room will be carnival ready. But sometimes you just want to hang out on a comfortable balcony and just watch the craziness unfold below dressed  in your casual sweats...

Either way the spirit is around you!

And if I can't find a proper headboard, salvage doors would be just fine.
Maybe I will scrap the idea of a headboard and find an amazing huge piece of art!
I may have to sleep in here
Would this ever turn up at the Nashville Flea Market? One can only hope!

Goal for flea market: Headboard

Flea market weekends would not be as fun if I didn't have my sidekicks Brandy and Melanie with me. These two girls are pros at this and each one of us always finds some sort of treasure that we have to figure out how to get home. We also like to have a goal to accomplish there. My goal this weekend will be to find a proper headboard for my semi neglected guest room. Maybe something like this:

Count down to Flea Market has begun!

5 more days till this month's Flea Market. I hope I find something "insane" like these amazing chairs. How great would they be around a kitchen table?

Welcome to my home away from home

This is my first official post to my blog and I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the creative input from my beloved cousin Patrice and the passion for typography and graphic design from my son Christopher. This blog will be about all things "insane" in design, whether it is something amazing I find in a junk shop or a picture that inspires us to think outside the box.
 Welcome!
