Weekend Recap

It has been an emotional and busy time in Chez Crochet. Emily graduated on Saturday morning so my husband's family started arriving at 2:30 pm and the last members pulled up around 10:00pm...the party is on! Food had been prepared but Brian and I were not ready for the emotional roller coaster. In no way am I or my husband ready to see our baby leave for college. But here it is...a big dose of reality:

It's so fricking blurry because I was sobbing uncontrollably.

After the ceremony it was back to the house for food and many cocktails. The next day you would all be proud...my sister in law Stacy and I headed to the flea market...it was only 95 degrees.

I walked away with nothing except a glass of lemonade, a sunburn, and body odor but we did spot these treasures:

First thing we saw!

It's brass and large...say no more

gravel art New Orleans style

yellow and orange bamboo stools

And this post would not be complete without a non flattering pic of the Ya Ya. She was apparently overcome with emotion.

Crafty Bitches

Last night Brandy and I attended a finger knitting class put on by the girls of OMG at Jackalope Brewery. What could be more fun than a bunch of women drinking beer and trying to learn a new skill, that by the way, is actually pretty cool. I couldn't make this up if I tried so here are the pictures to prove it:

Phase 1: get your equipment

Phase 2: Get your fingers to work. The girl on the left clearly just decided to drink.

Phase 3: Ask for help.

Phase 4: Extra long finger knit scarf/necklace complete!

It was a really fun evening and I can't wait for their next crafty bitch class!

A Little Piece Of Home

Today was my daughter's last day of high school. Needless to say I did some crying this morning but I'm happy she is headed to college back home in Louisiana. So when I stumbled across these today online, I had to order a large amount:

Now if I just had some crawfish to go with them, I would be in great shape.

Best Diet Ever!

It's easy...just put a painting of 2 naked guys playing some sort of weird game in your kitchen.

Yellow Is Not Mellow

I was doing a quick run through Home Goods when I spotted this:

Now I know chevron has been done and probably overused but I don't care...I like it...and my phone does not do the color justice. It's a warm golden yellow and it really brightens up my foyer:

I scotch guarded the bejesus out of it but at $29.99 I won't cry to hard if it doesn't have a long clean life.

The color in this rug is perfect with my pale yellow walls in the house and the brighter version of yellow in Brian's office which is behind the sliding panels.

Yes, that is a LSU helmet...one of many in that room.

Ever since I saw this room, I have dreamed of having some version of this:

But that would require so much more scotch guard!

Fever Pitch

Unfortunately Emily's graduation is fast approaching and me taking the Scarlet O'Hara attitude of I'll think about it tomorrow,  is not going to cut it so this house is getting ready for a large crowd to descend upon us. The menu has been discussed, because as we all know, it's all about the food if you entertain a crowd from Louisiana. I have moved on being upset that the countertops will not be installed by then, and frankly these Formica ones will be covered in pans of food so nobody will even care. During all this planning and emotional distress, my mother's cat decides to bite the back of her leg. Now my mom is 82 with heart disease so when anything happens, it's a disaster. This is what cat scratch fever looks like:

A trip to the ER, IV antibiotics and 10 days of oral antibiotics that make you pee out your butt later, I am one big basket of nuts.

It's going to be fine. I can do this.

I ran to Target today and found the greatest front door mat:

Ignore the fact that we need to sand and repaint our front porch.

I also picked up some great towels on sale for $3 each

I promise I got more than 3 towels.

So between the fever in mom's leg and the fever pitch of activity, anxiety, and denial around here, I am going to have to be medicated.

Suit Up

There is nothing sexier than when a man is all dressed up in a great suit. It just transforms them from average joe to 007 and that can also happen with furniture. Men's suiting fabric can be found at stores like Joanne's for as little as $10 a yard so it is not a wallet buster and will make a piece classic and timeless...just like a great suit.

Finds For Under $100

We all know that what gets me going is finding amazing things, with that said, they also have to be affordable. I can find items all day long that are way beyond our beer budget, but that's not so much fun. So if I am going to send this last child of mine to college, I better be resourceful, thrifty, and creative with where I hunt. Obviously craigslist is an amazing resource and here are a few items that I found for under $100:

midcentury storage bench $35...would make a great toy box or clothes hamper

white leather and brass gentleman's chair $100...would be stunning in the closet

teakwood lamp $75

So it can be done...it just takes a little effort and research but the payoff is tremendous. If anyone needs a special piece, I am your woman!

Weekend Recap

There was steady action around here this weekend...not what you're thinking.

Friday Brandy and I went to an Asian explosion estate sale and we missed out on the one thing we really wanted. Check out her post to view the most amazing grass cloth oriental navy wallpaper you have ever seen and will never see again because some chick that was young enough for me to give birth to took all 7 rolls. I'm not hating...just stating the facts. I did find a great fabric remnant for $3 that I will have Mom turn into a pillow:

A cool piece of art for $8:

Saturday I had my husband's bday present delivered and he was surprised and happy:

A man named Ed Landry in Hendersonville, Tn made this potting bench from hickory and it is large and in charge. So much potting will take place and it can double for a bar!

Cinco was a snooze fest in downtown Franklin. There was a Guinness World Record challenge for the most people shooting tequila and we failed miserably.

Sunday the gnome got the royal treatment:

and I'm still not over missing out on that wallpaper.

The Head of the Bed

As I was trolling Craigslist this morning, I came across 2 amazing headboards that will make me insane before the day is over (although it is senior citizen day at Publix and I will be taking mother so that could do it also).

This is the kind of piece that dictates the rooms direction and can take it from ordinary to extraordinary for minimal amount of money. If you start with a headboard like these, you are on your way to a one of a kind bedroom that will not look like Rooms To Go.
