Feeling Disoriented At Orientation

Emily and I have been in Louisiana for her freshman orientation and it was a whirlwind trip full of emotion. First of all I hate car trips and second of all my baby will be leaving me but we did work in seeing every single family member and wonderful food. I took no pictures of the first day because I was to distraught, confused and financially overwhelmed. After picking her up at the dorm on day 2, I was good to go. Here are a few pics of the highlights of what I call home...my wonderful state of Louisiana:

Where in the world would you find a tub full of voodoo dolls?

And The Winner Is...

I also had to get a little creative when I heard the quote for both kitchen and desk area so I came up with this solution for my "office":

STRIPES!

and yes...that is an old school intercom system on the wall...stop laughing!

Kitchen Conundrum

COUNTERTOPS ARE IN!

And in keeping with the true insane lifestyle I lead, there were a few creeper moments. Here is a short excerpt from the first creepy convo:

countertop installer:  " Is that your real hair color?"
me:   " Sort of" (He is going to rape me and find out if the carpet matches the drapes)
countertop installer:  "Sure is pretty, my wife is strawberry blonde"
me:  "Great"

second creepy convo:

countertop installer:  "I wasn't staring at your daughter earlier, I was admiring the painting in the living room and couldn't stop staring"
me:  "Great"
countertop installer:  "Is that your only daughter?"
me:  "Yep, I have a son that is 22 and is on his way home from his bouncer job"
countertop installer:  "I'm 25, you could be my mom"
me:  "Great"

You can't make this shit up. Anywhoo, here are the counters:

So now it's time to pick a back splash. Here are my options:

Classic subway tile with dark grout
Disco ball in the kitchen
Barefoot Contessa style
DIY project

Boho Chic
Mirror to make the room look bigger

So there you go. A decision needs to be made. I am now going to stand under a hot shower and try to erase the image of countertop installer man staring at my baby.

Minty Fresh

The weather has been been amazing here for the CMT Festival and Bonnaroo so in keeping with this fresh feeling, when I was taking the Ya Ya to senior citizen day at Publix, I picked up some mint green nail polish:

and then I spied this at Home Goods:

and the mint green obsession was on:

And The Winner Is...

When I watch reality competition tv,  I like to pick a winner early and, of course, see if I'm right. So after watching 2 episodes I'm ready to pull the trigger and cast my vote:

Love this chick! She doesn't whine or cry...she just gets down to business. Love the mix of patterns and colors and I can't wait to see what she does next. So who gets your vote?

And Yet Another Weekend Recap

This past weekend was yet another family adventure but this time we packed up and headed for Savannah to see my nephew Daniel and his wife graduate from SCAD, and their new baby Lilly get christened. If you ever want to feel a) inspired or b) inept go to an art school graduation. The talent is unbelievable! From furniture to fashion...amazing design was everywhere and we as a family could not be more proud. There was a lot of  togetherness, silliness, and just plain insanity:

Brian felt the need to stand on his head

The christening was at The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in downtown Savannah and this church was like nothing I have ever seen. It was built in the 1700's and the detail, colors, and architecture were mind blowing:

And the star of the show:

Lilly

Now that I am back, family has left, and the house is back in order, it's time to get back to what I love and that's finding amazing stuff and Lord knows...trying to start a business!

P.S.

I'm still in total denial of my baby leaving for college and refuse to start purchasing things for this dorm room.
