Wandering Around On Wednesday

Today was spent with a good friend at an antique mall. For those that live here, you are familiar with Gaslamp Antique Mall. I personally feel claustrophobic in there and but I know they have a "few" good vendors in there that are worth the pain. I however never come out of there feeling anything but relieved to be breathing fresh air...I have issues.

Gaslamp now has opened up a second location...just down the driveway. I was skeptical but went and was I wrong! This time they got it right. I was kept interested, tempted and entertained from start to finish.

Now some items were pricey but at least I didn't feel like it was the same shit that is piled in and up to the ceiling.

Here are some items that I thought were blogworthy:

bamboo mirror

brass side table

beautiful chair covered in Scalamandre fabric

black and yellow vinyl diner set

large brass lamp with oversized shade

glass chandy

small chinese lamp

sexy sconce

pair of crazy good mcm lamps...but very pricey!

pair of tiki stools

brass and silver oval table

I have no words but awesome!
And finally I took pics of 2 pillows that are made by a local artist Danielle Duer, who has been featured at Art & Invention Gallery. To me these are the ultimate in works of art.

A Weekend of Insanity and Profanity

This weekend started out with some promising estate sales so Kathy and I met at one of these "time capsules" and I scored 2 serving pieces:

I love the one with the green triangle because it has the small magnet where your knife can rest.

I also scored a ridic amount of vintage matchbooks for $5. We will never be without a match in our lifetime. I know...I'm weird.

I termed this house a "time capsule" because it was a MCM treasure trove:

unfortunately this was sold

there were a pair of these attached to the wall flanking a desk

nothing screams basement than a sofa full of creepy dolls

Then from there we met ModFruGal at the flea market. The weather was amazing and so was the pickings:

she made it home

she is home with me

Good flea market with great friends.

Saturday was Emily's 18th bday and her cousin took her out Friday night and we received a text or 2 concerning beverages that were being consumed at midnight.
Now Brian and I partied our way through college and we are not naive when it comes to this subject. I was raised that 5:00 is cocktail hour and every party should offer a stocked bar and a keg.

Saturday rolls around and we call to say "happy birthday...how bad does your head hurt and did you throw up?"

She said she had fun and was planning on going to her football game in a few minutes. She will send pics of tailgating.

We got a pic alright...of the f**king tatoo that she got!

I was nauseated for 10 seconds and then I moved on...which means made a drink.

Brian however fixed a Jamison on the rocks and was pissed...for a while.

At least LSU won...sorry Brandy.

We have moved on...it could be worse..far worse and it's not on her face.

So to sum it up, there has been a lot of alcohol consumed, some shopping, and football watched.

At least mother didn't fall or need to be taking to a medical facility.

That's another blog post coming soon.

I'm Insane For...

I am insane for many things. To list a few items, here are my top 5:

1. LSU football
2. flea markets
3. dogs
4. design
5. books

Bet you weren't expecting books to be in my top 5 but I am obsessed with reading.

I will be halfway through a book and am already researching what I will read next. I don't own a Kindle or a Nook. I like to hold, smell and touch a book. I like to fill bookcases till they are overflowing. I still have every Nancy Drew ever written and they are proudly hanging out next to "To Kill A Mockingbird".

One day I will have a room that looks like this:

or dine in a room that is like this:
t

I would not have a problem filling this bad boy up:

You get my point.

So without further ado, I want to tell you about a book that is rocking my world right now. No, it is not Fifty Shades of Gray, it is "Gone Girl" by Gillian Flynn. This is such a time suck! I barely get anything done because I can't put this down. Put simply, it is the story of two thirty somethings grappling with the disillusionment of a shoddy 5 yr. marriage. Throw in boredom, selfishness, loss of careers, and many twists and turns and you get the perfect book.

So do yourself a huge favor, get off pinterest and READ!

A Propaganda Party

Today is my son's 23rd birthday and what did he want for his present? A Chinese propaganda poster framed and matted. Of course...what else would you want?

I actually think these are amazing, graphic, and interesting so after doing some research I discovered a guy named Roland Emmerich who is the director of Independence Day, The Patriot, and 10,000 B.C. He lives in a London townhouse and his choice of art is interesting to say the least, but what I found appealing was his use of propaganda art on a large scale:

Check out the entire article about this controversial space here http://ctcottageindustries.blogspot.com/2008/09/brilliant-or-bad-taste-director-roland.html . These propaganda posters were the most famous kind of communist art. They were created to sway public and international opinion in favor of its policies. They are actually quite beautiful:

This one is got to be my all time favorite! So happy birthday Christopher! I'm so proud of you and love that you asked for art for your birthday. I love you.

Back in Black and Gold

I'm back from my trip to Atlanta, which was really great, but do you ever feel like it's not worth leaving because so much shit happens when you leave and the aftermath is too much?

Here is the story:

Wednesday
I am on the road to Atlanta when I get a call that mother's defibrillator/pacemaker combo started vibrating in her chest. After many calls between her, my husband, and the doctor's office, it was determined that her battery needs to be replaced and that will be dealt with this week.

Thursday
I am at the Yellow Daisy Festival and my phone rings and it's my son who proceeds to tell me that my mother's cat has bitter her and she can't get the bleeding under control. Now my husband is out of town also so that leaves my 22 yr old to deal. After giving him instructions on what to do and where to go, I speak to mom and let her know that help is on the way.
I hang up the phone then and cry my eyes out in the middle of an arts and crafts fair.
So I managed this situation for the rest of the time there and when I got home I was immediately on daily wound care and scheduling her battery replacement.

I did however, after cleaning the hole in my mother's wrist, run into GW for junk therapy and found these:

Black and Gold beauties!

I feel better because that combo is just good

Happy Birthday Mama!

Today my Ya Ya Mother is 83 years old so what is the best present an 83 yr. old can get?

A 32" flat screen so she can watch FOX News in a larger format.

She really is obsessed with this channel and truly believes she knows each one of these obnoxious dooms day delivery people.

Happy Birthday Mom...I Love You (even if you do watch a channel that makes you want to slit your wrist because the world is coming to an end and there is no hope)
