The Definition of Flambeau

Flambeau: lighted torches used to illuminate floats in Mardi Gras parades in New Orleans

It also is the name for the most amazing lighting company that is quintessential New Orleans. I would give up a body part or two to own either a pair of sconces or a lamp. They are perfect in either an eclectic home or a very clean modern setting. They are like a piece of art:

Walking and Talking

I have always valued friends, but ever since I have come back from "home" (taking Emily back to school), I realize how lucky I am.
No matter how long I have been gone, it is so wonderful and easy to slide right back in with old friends. With that being said, I was scrolling through blogs today and read Heather's blog Tatter and Fray. She always finds the most amazing things for next to nothing and one of her finds was a princess phone. If you are not old enough to know what that is, here ya go:

I have been obsessed with rotary phones and every time I see one at the flea market I reach for it but don't pull the trigger. Partly because my family already thinks I am a whack job, but the other half is like..."Why should I buy this, I can't walk around from room to room and talk. That's annoying!" I'm a multitasker and the thought of not having the option to be mobile kills me. What's wrong with sitting and giving your friend 100% attention? Why do you need to cook, fold laundry and talk. Remember these days...

I wished I could have smoked in bed and talked on my princess phone! We should also talk about those lamps! Seriously amazing! Anyway...the point to this post is I will buy a rotary phone next flea market and I will stop cooking, folding laundry and peeing while I talk to a friend.

Get Your Gown On

Life is back to semi normal now. We bought Emily a car and so I followed her back (8 hrs.!) to make sure Bob the Booty Bandit did not get her at a random gas station.
The parental units are fine for now.
So the next focus is Mardi Gras! My husband and I bought Endymion tickets back in the fall and now he finds out he can't go. So.....it has turned into a girls trip. Sad right? I know...it's going to be awful but I will power through some how.

Time to shop for that perfect gown. The one that you can be comfortable in all night. The one that isn't to heavy. And the most important...the one that doesn't cost a fortune because we just bought someone a car.

If I had unlimited budget this is what I would want:

Sadly I cannot have any of these and will have to settle with what is upstairs at Dillards. It' ok because at the end of the night I may look like this:

2012 Recap

2012...What a f**king year!

I hate those blogs where someone pins some inspirational quote that is supposed to make you feel better about everything. I am just going to be honest and say "Shit happens and you move forward"...so that's what I am doing.

To recap, my mom has had 2 cardiac procedures and is doing well. I finally talked her into getting a cane for stability (that is code for I was tired of her hanging on to me every time we went somewhere). She won't use it because it doesn't look good. If anyone sees a Lucite cane call me.

My dad, who I have been in limited contact with for a laundry list of reasons, calls me and tells me he has been admitted to a skilled nursing facility in Florida. After speaking to doctors and social workers, his diagnosis's are congestive heart failure and schizo affective disorder. My whole childhood just made sense.
I am now learning about Medicaid. I have started an investigation with Adult Protective Services. I am educating myself about Schizophrenia.

It's a lot.

But the silver lining is I am not alone on this journey. I am blessed with so many things and have learned everyone has a story. If you think someone's life is perfect...think again. Looks are quite deceiving.
I am guilty for wishing I was some of these people who have their homes in magazines, that live these glamorous lives and spend buckets of money on Christian Liaigre benches (Jeffrey Allan Marks and hot Ross's Nantucket client). But I am quite sure these people have shit in their lives...I mean some of them  have to order stuff from catalogs!

Another "person" in my home has also been blessed.
Remember Betty?

She has found a man...

His name is Bruce...he's hot like Betty.

So in closing, I am looking forward to a new year. It may be challenging at some points but as Sweet Brown so eloquently stated when her apartment complex was on fire:
