My Warrior Is Weighted Down

I have a Japanese warrior statue, that I inherited from my grandmother, that I use to hold my long and substantial necklaces and the poor guy is completely weighted down by my obsession.

So when I recently visited OMG...Old Made Good in East Nashville, I knew this guy was going to be in big trouble:

I am obsessed with this necklace and can't wait to go back to see what else this poor guy can shlep for me!

He is so mad...he won't even look at me.

So go see Kate and Ashley at OMG. You will walk out of there with something...I promise.

And if they happen to have a warrior statue there...let me know. This dude needs some backup.

Mixing It Up

Remember the Bertoia chair that was spotted at the flea market?

Well ModFruGal grabbed that sucker up quick as lightening and it will be perfect in any room in her home. Just take a look at the tour on her blog.

If I had grabbed that chair, I would incorporate it in a space like this:

I love the mix of mid century, Dorothy Draper, and global accessories.

That's the great thing about shopping flea markets, estate sales, and junk shops...you can find timeless items, such as the chair or that desk, and interesting and sometimes quirky pieces such as the lamp and containers.

It's not rocket science...just buy what you love and it will all work out.

Apparently the flea market knew I needed to sit down

February flea market is historically not the best, then factor in giving it a go with a broken leg, lets just say added up to a not great time but I was proven wrong!

The flea market gods must have known I needed a seat occasionally because pairs of chairs were everywhere!

this is a close up of the fabric on these chairs...so good!

Enough chairs...here are some other items

such a great mix of rustic wood and shiny brass

Can't wait for next month!

It's That Time Of Year

Well it's that time of year in the Crochet house...major project time!

We have a huge list but my #1 is kitchen flooring. Last year we tackled countertops, backsplash, and painting cabinets so it makes since to get this room finished.
Currently we have disgusting linoleum so anything would be an improvement.
This project not only includes the kitchen but also a half bath, pantry closet, and laundry room...that is why it wasn't done last year.
My home is not an open floor plan. The kitchen is definitely on an island by itself so keep that in mind.
Options:

1. continue the wood floors that we have throughout the first floor

Makes sense but I'm not really feeling it. It would be fine but not being an open floor plan lends itself to doing something a little different which is what my design aesthetic is all about.

2. Slate flooring Let's just say I am obsessed with it. Maybe because you saw it a lot in South Louisiana but I think it is so amazing.

Now I can't afford the real thing but I have found a product that I really love and it's in my price range.

 Pergo Monson Slate

I love the variations of grey, the texture and the price. At $3.55 a square foot it's a lot of bang for the buck.
It also transitions well from my honey colored wood floors.

It would be amazing in a herringbone pattern.

I love the white grout and black slate together.

I am obsessed with this foyer using the black slate, grey wall, and warm wood.

I could go on and on about more options, but I would be lying.

In my world there is only one option and that is slate.

 Now to convince my husband.

A Belated Valentine's Day Post...the things that I love

I am behind on this post because after I returned from my trip to NOLA and got diagnosed with a broken leg, my husband and I went to the Smokey Mountains for our 26 year wedding anniversary.

Let's just say no hiking was accomplished like he had planned but we had a great time.

I am truly blessed with so much love in my life.

Another thing I am loving is this wall hanging that Brandy and I stumbled upon on one of our adventures and I can't get it off my brain.

It reminds me of the Hygge and West wallpaper that I am obsessed with also.

The wall hanging is certainly priced less than the paper so I'm thinking I may have to pull the trigger. Now to just hobble on over there and grab it before someone else does!

My Insane Life

Our New Orleans trip was insane!

Brandy and I landed in New Orleans at 8:30am Friday morning and we did not stop till Tuesday at 10:40am when we landed back in Nashville.

My best friends from college, Randy and Ann, hosted THE best Mardi Gras weekend ever! They have bought a fabulous townhome on St. Charles that is on every parade route. This property sat empty for 1 year and when they purchased it, let's just say it was in need of a little TLC. Like every window leaked, master bedroom had a colony of mold growing on the ceiling, carpet looked like a rave with chocolate milk had been scheduled, and abandoned clothes were in piles.

In comes the Ostroms and this place has been brought back to it's full potential.

The ladders are not for construction...those are very important bead catching apparatuses.

They added the brick and honestly I think it is genius. All of the furnishings were obtained through craiglist or local shops.

The dining room was the perfect spot for planning the day. This brick wall was also added...the chairs craiglisted, and the table made locally.

Emily showed up and that made the weekend even more special.

So Saturday rolls around and it's time to get ready for Endymion Ball.

If this doesn't get you excited, I don't know what does.

After these pics..things started to go downhill for me.

Let's just say greed and the need for extreme dancing led to breaking my leg in 2 places.

It' ok...this trip was amazing and I don't regret 1 minute...except the need to get close to the stage.

I have the best friends in the entire world and I am blessed beyond belief.

I May Be Insane

This past weekend I had the opportunity to so to Gen Sohr's tag sale and it was full of fantastic things. Not only is her house amazing but the items that she has collected, and thank goodness ready to sell, were fantastic.
Brandy and I walked away with a variety of things...linens, lighting, clothes.

I instantly was drawn to this:

I know...shocking!

My husband thinks I'm insane. I probably am.

I think I am going to try it here:

On this big stupid foyer wall that is my nemesis.

It could go completely cra cra or be a super cool nod to our home state.

We will see when I can get the hubs to bring in the big ass ladder.

Off to pack several spanks in my suitcase for the big weekend.

By the way...Sarah Richardson threw up a crest in this room and no one  has called her insane.

Rooms With A Twist

Since I have been on this New Orleans/Mardi Gras roll lately, I thought I would show some rooms that to me have the essence of this irreverent, artsy, and sometimes twisted city that I love:

So go put something weird in your rooms and laissez bon temps rouler!
